“One More Favor” -Favre Says at His News Conference
- When I left New Orleans last year I felt like I was done.
- Answering the bell again… the “what ifs”, and what happens if you can’t do it.
- Physically, I can’t complain… nothing’s going to be 100%
- The surgery has made me better
- I played 309 straight games… I can’t complain.
- A new bone spur emerged from latest xray (so a concern)
- My ankle tends to sprain a bit easier than it did earlier in my career… every day walking is fine… [but] playing football is not the best thing to do for you ankle.
- I’m not excited about getting hit, but that’s part of it.
- There’s no substitute for calling plays in a real game environment…
- My arm feels great but to think it’s going to be ready for the first game… that’s going to take some time.
- It’s getting familiar with the guys again… but I thought it went rather smoothly [practice]
- [Re: Last Season]: Never in my wildest dreams did I think I woulda played that good [never did in previous seasons]… I was even amazed…. to think that I could surpass that this year…. and I don’t even need to…. but [you saw] even though I played that well, it “wasn’t enough”.
- Everything for the most part seems to be fine.
- Expectations are high here, as they should be…
- Whatever it takes for us to win… but I am not here to set any records… There is nothing left for me to prove… I am here to have fun… it’s really about these guys.
- It’s about these guys… it really is.
- I’m not a doctor, but … [the shoulder] would get a bit worse each week… and you can’t back out of it… and now I am in it again.
- I am not going to break any records
- We have arguably one of the best running backs in football.
- Do I just think I can do it? I can’t promise I can make it through the season… they were saying the same thing last year, and I played my best football in December.
- I don’t want to hurt this team by not playing at a high level… and I had to have surgery.
- I am surprised it [my ankle] doesn’t feel better after the surgery, deep down I was hoping for no pain… but they [doctors] said don’t expect that.
- Hey, you have to play with pain… so, can you play with pain and still play at a high level? That’s the real question.
- At one point, I was thinking I was done, and some of the guys were saying that for selfish reasons, they wanted him back.
- Every guy… they said ‘We wanted you back’…. ‘We know where we stand with you’
- People will break it down [the decision], and say ‘this is wrong’… ‘this is right’, etc… but the guys [TJ, etc] handled this really well.
- More than talent, the chemistry has to come together…. it came together last year… you could have a magical year and STILL not win the Super Bowl…
- Me coming in brings alot of expectations and Hoopla… but no one is deserving of that much attention, I know I am not.
- If we had gone “8 and 8″ it would have been a “no brainer”… [meaning retirement], but that did not happen, it seemed like destiny… I tip my hat to those buys [teammates]….
- After loss, I though decision would be made sooner rather than later, but this organization was great… but I did and I didn’t want to think about football…. but I did think maybe I should give it another try, with no guarantees.
- The trips down to Hattysburg, and the Billboards, it was all sincere, and I felt like I owed it to them to give it another try [with no guarantees - something he's said a couple of times at this news conference]
- If we go down, we go down swinging, together…
- If it doesn’t work out, they may say it was just a circus… but I can’t control what other people say…
- But all the things my teammates said… hey, as much as I want to play, [it meant alot to him... it affected him how his teammates treated him]
- I don’t want to fail… I’m just being honest… if another guy stands up here and says I’m not worried about failing….
- These guys are asking me to do them “ONE MORE FAVOR“… [and Bret sounds like that was what was hard to say NO to]
- Everyone’s writing you off, and that is motivation…
- I would love to play at a high leve, the way I did last year, but the most important thing is WINS and LOSSES.
- I am fortunate enough to have won a Super Bowl… I’ve got all the good records, and all the bad records.
- My career speaks for itself… I cannot be more proud of how I played last year… but like the guys said, let’s finish this thing together… so I’m going to give this one more try…
- Regardless of how it ends, I will have ended my career on top.
- I feel like what we had last year was special, and it was worth giving it one more try.
- ESPN: “He said, ‘This is last year of my contract’… ‘…this is it’.“
Brett Favre: 4,202 Passing Yards, 33 TD’s, and 7 Int in 2009. Career: 69,329 Passing Yards
AGAIN, THIS was all “paraphased” as best I could (typing real time) as I watched Bret Favre’s News Conference on announcing his return to the NFL for the 2011 Season. -Greg Mallon
Golic is Good Enough to Pass Haynesworth Test
It appears that Mike Golic (ESPN) did stop short of the cone a couple of times and was nearly on the number when he took the Albert Haynesworth conditioning test. But still… this is enough to show that Haynesworth should, if he is “in shape”, be able to pass Mike Shannahan’s conditioning test for the Washington Redskins.
<– Golic stops short of the cones (but still doesn’t matter).

FLASH – Bret Favre to Retire (Ooops!)
August 03, 2010, 10:59am – Bret Favre, according to the Star Tribune and verified by ESPN, has decided to call it quits and retire after 19 seasons as NFL’s Iron Man and Quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings. More to come.
UPDATE: And Yet again… LOL! So it looks like even though he “texted” teammates saying “It’s Over”… it was not. I say, I don’t care if he waits to the MIDDLE OF THE SEASON…. just play. Again, if he plays NEXT YEAR, but wait to play the final 6 games (including the playoffs), good enough. I LOVE BRET FAVRE, and it’s good for the NFL. FOUR WEEKS TO GO!

Black Monday – A Funeral for Freedom
It really happened. Despite the overwhelming voice of the American people, this Congress and this President has taken it upon themselves to destroy fundamental freedom in the United States of America. And who do we have to thank? Sadly, it is the gullible and idealistic youth of America who did not scratch the surface to reveal the truth behind candidate Obama’s rhetoric. It just looked and sounded good, but it was and is “socialism”. And now all of America, their children, and their children’s children will pay dearly with their freedom.
Ronald Reagan once said, if americans did not act to prevent it, “we will awake to find that we have socialism. And if you don’t do this, and if I don’t do it, one of these days, you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children, and our children’s children, what it once was like in America when men were free”.
On this sad morning we awake to realize he was right.
I am Way Behind on Blogging and Updating my Websites
I love my job, but I am so swamped there are numerous topics I want to blog about and have not yet had a chance to address. I am a software and database developer and will probably be swamped until the end of March, but I want to list the hot topics I will be discussing when time permits:
- The assault on the US Constitution: Over the years, the progressive movement has been methodically ignoring, if not destroying the Constitution given to us by our founding fathers. Glenn Beck has been shedding light on this topic, but we ALL must get involved, educate ourselves and start defending the principles outlined in that historic document.
- Congress Ignoring the clear Will of the American People: Sadly, the progressive democratic party (specifically, the Obama-Pelosi-Reed trio) are blatantly ignoring the wishes of the majority of Americans and are intent on nudging this country toward a socialist state.
- What is Barack Obama’s True Agenda for Our Country?: Recent interviews with Dr. John C. Drew (a former Marxist and former acquaintance of Barack Obama when he was at Occidental College) has shed some light on Mr. Obama’s views when he was a younger man. The statements Mr. Obama made in his youth, when he was passionate about his Marxist/Lenninist views and his view (back then) about the future of American need to be further explored. Has his views changed? Has he renounced any of these beliefs?
- I gotta Update EinsteinsWorld.com: Those who really know me know I am a big Einstein fan and a student of physics and General Relativity in particular. While I started EinsteinsWorld.com, I really need to start updating the technical articles on Curved Space, Time Travel, and many other topics.
- Blogging on Washington Capitals Hockey: Now that the Olympic break is over, I can’t wait to get back in the groove and start watching and blogging on some Washington Capitals games. Unfortunately, I have deadlines at the end of this month, so I will be lucky if I even get to watch one of the games. Not only that, I am flying out Friday to Atlanta for a guy trip to see the Sprint Cup NASCAR series and visit my parents. The CAPS will be on hold for a while… BUMMER.
“Approval Index” Looking Bad for Obama
One of the most informative polls available to get a sense of “what the people think” is the Rasmussen “Daily Presidential Tracking Poll”. It measures those who “Approve”, “Disapprove”, “Strongly Approve” (now 23%), and “Strongly Disapprove” (43%). To calculate the so-called “Approval Index”, you simply subtract the percentage of who “Strongly Dispprove” from those who “Strongly Approve”. Therefore, as of 25-Feburary-2010, President Obama’s current “Approval Index” is -20 (minus 20).
To get a sense of how fast his popularity is dropping, Mr. Obama’s approval index was -4 (minus 4) on February 1st (24 days ago). Looking closely at the numbers we see that the key to the significant drop is not so much the increase in “strong disapproval”, but a precipitous decrease in those who “strongly approve”. By contrast, Mr. Obama’s highest approval index was 2 days after he took the oath of office when his approval index was +30 (plus 30), with a “strongly approve” = 44% and a “strongly disapprove” = 16%.
